Tips For Your First Time Using Recreational Marijuana Products

by Terry Torres

If you are new to the world of marijuana but are wanting to try it now that it is legal in your state, it's wise to educate yourself about it first. By reading through the following tips, you can ensure your first experience with legal marijuana is a pleasant one.

Pick a good time

Timing is everything, especially if you have never tried marijuana before. The length of the effects can vary from person to person, and if you have no previous experience, then you won't know for sure how long to expect your high to last for the dose you take. For this reason, pick a time to try marijuana when you have a completely open schedule for the rest of the day. This way, you won't have to worry about being high-functioning with a high that is lasting longer than you expected.

Choose a delivery method

There are many ways to imbibe marijuana, but the three main ones for beginners are smoking, vaping, and edibles. Smoking can be cost effective, but the technique takes some practice — particularly if you have never smoked any type of substance previously. Plus, there are the health concerns that come from smoking any type of substance. Vaping can be a better option than smoking. You will need to purchase an inexpensive vape pen along with a cartridge that contains the vape oil. It does take a little bit of practice to inhale correctly. Edibles are the simplest option, but beware that it can be easy to ingest too much marijuana, especially as a beginner. Plan to consume no more than 3 - 5mg of THC at a time. Wait an hour or two, and then dose another 3 - 5mg if you feel the effects are too weak.

Invite friends

Don't try marijuana alone for your first time! While the budtender at the dispensary can lead you to some good beginner strains that are less likely to cause paranoia, it's still a good idea to have a trusted friend with you. It's even better if the friend has some experience with marijuana. Everyone reacts a little differently, and anxiety and paranoia can sometimes occur — particularly in beginners who aren't sure what to expect.

Stay hydrated

Finally, spend the day before you try marijuana getting well-hydrated. The CBD oils in marijuana can cause dry mouth, which is made even worse if you are already dehydrated. "The munchies" are also a real side effect of marijuana use. While being well hydrated can lessen the munchies, you may also want to make sure you have some healthy snacks on hand.
