Martial Arts Mastery: The Dojo Matters

Why Your Child Should Take Tennis Classes

by Terry Torres

If you have a child who is interested in learning how to play tennis, then you should put them in tennis classes. They will learn a lot of things that will help them to get started playing in the best manner possible. If they start playing tennis on their own without any proper instruction, then they can end up developing some bad habits that can end up affecting their tennis game for years to come. Here are some of the basics that your child will learn in tennis classes that can help them to become a much more successful tennis player early on:

Your child will learn the proper stance

Having a proper stance in tennis is more important than you might think. The stance is crucial because it ensures they are maintaining their balance, but it also ensures that they are going to be putting themselves in the best position possible in order to move any way they are going to need depending on how the ball is served to them. Also, it is extremely important for them to have the proper stance when they are serving because the right stance puts them in the position they need to have in order to serve the ball with power and precision. Your child will be taught how to decide which stance to use for each match as well.

Your child will learn about proper grips

While there may not be a set-in-stone correct way to grip the tennis racket, there are different grips that will help your child feel comfortable and to take control of their game. There are grips that would put your child at a disadvantage because the grips may make your child uncomfortable or it may even give them a weaker or more awkward approach. Your child will be learning different grips, educated on which grips are best for serving, and they will learn the grips that may not feel natural to them and may feel uncomfortable but will really be good to master.

Your child will work on serving

It takes most tennis players years to learn how to consistently hit great serves. However, hitting a great serve is so important to the game of tennis. When your child takes tennis classes, they will learn all about serving and they will go over their serves again and again, so they will continue to improve. When your child takes tennis classes in which they learn to serve and do a lot of practicing, they can significantly improve their game and may one day truly excel at the game of tennis.
